Feeling the Chill

For the past 24 hours I've been able to experience the winter that never really came to Northern Virginia.  Up here in NW Pennsylvania  I've seen a fresh coating of snow blanket the landscape and have peered up into the cold, gray sky I often associate with northeast winters.

This afternoon we took a quick drive up to Erie for some shopping.  I practically squealed with delight when greeted by the swirl of snowflakes as we walked through the parking lot to our lunch destination.  My niece, who's been living through snowy winters her last three years of college, wasn't as excited as me.  Nonetheless, she granted me a few minutes to tilt my head up into the sky and enjoy the feeling of being in my very own snow globe. It was just enough time for me to experience the flakes gliding down my face and a chill down my spine. That was enough. I tightened up my jacket and turned toward the restaurant entrance.

  1. When I read your slice, the way you were excited about the snow and your cousin not so much, I thought that instead of being tired of new snow fall I should look at it as if it was the first each time - with wondering eyes.
